Hollister Rally Management Confirmed

On Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013 the Hollister City Council approved an agreement with a management company for the July revival of a motorcycle rally to take place downtown.

Council members approved the deal in a 3-0 vote. Councilman Ray Friend and Councilwoman Pauline Valdivia were absent while Mayor Ignacio Velazquez was joined by Councilman Robert Scattini and Councilman Victor Gomez in giving the official go-ahead.

It was the final, major step in bringing back the official Hollister Independence Rally tradition. The council had previously canceled the event due to budget constraints and law enforcement concerns. In a push to bring the rally back, the Hollister Police Department compiled an efficient budget for law enforcement and public services that weighed in at one third prior event's costs.

City Manager Clint Quilter worked hand in hand with potential rally manager Mark Cresswell of Worldwide Dynamics Inc to put together a working plan to bring the rally back. After months of preparation the Council approved the deal with Worldwide Dynamics last night to hold the rally July 5th and 6th, 2013.

In other city news, the Hollister City council paused to provide commendations for two Hollister Police Department officers for their heroic acts in saving three children from an apartment fire. On Friday January 4th, officers Carlos Rodriguez and David Anderson removed the children ages 2, 5 and 10 from an upstairs apartment and notified 911 for a fire response.

The officers evacuated the remaining tenants in the complex and doused much of the fire. The children had been left home unattended according to a police statement. Had it not been for the quick response and actions of the officers, the outcome of this event could have been tragic. Kudos!

In rally news, Worldwide Dynamics is proud to announce that it has partnered up up with Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys as a Presenting Sponsor and the Official Motorcycle Attorneys for the world famous Independence Day weekend event.

Mark Cresswell the Rally Director praised the company for its continued support at many of the nations motorcycle events, thanked them for their generous sponsorship contribution and stressed how important it was to the economic success of the rally and the ability to preserve, protect and promote the great sport of motorcycling in general.

Mark also noted that Biker InCite will be producing the Official Hollister Rally Map. In 2013, Biker InCite is celebrating 10 years of producing top notch Vendor & Event maps for top rallies across the USA. Biker InCite produces event rally maps with pertinent information for the rally rider. They are the number one most requested maps during the Daytona and Sturgis rallies.

Adding to the festivities in Hollister, Worldwide Dynamics Event management and Tom Hensley owner of the Munro Special are proud to announce the world famed motorcycle will be at the rally. The record breaking Bonneville salt flats racer will be on display at the Fourth of July weekend Hollister Rally in the downtown area - just look for the crowd and listen for the roar - they'll be firing it up!

Hollister Rally to Return in 2013

On Monday evening the Hollister City Council unanimously and enthusiastically voted to bring back the world renowned Fourth of July motorcycle rally for the 2013 season. The reborn event, which has been on hold since 2009, is set to take place on July 5 & 6, 2013.

The American Biker image was born in Hollister Fourth of July weekend in 1947 when a group of rowdy bikers in town for the annual Gypsy Tour event reportedly terrorized the town. The story was picked up by Life magazine who published the iconic photo of a drunken biker sprawled on his bike amid a sea of beer bottles. The exaggeration was further sensationalized in the Marlon Brando pic “The Wild One”. The image stuck and has become an icon of Americana that lives to this day.

After “The Invasion of Hollister”, the annual Gypsy Tour event went dormant for decades. In preparation for the 50th anniversary of the historic event, Sonny Barger presented the idea of a rebirth to the city of Hollister and local business people. It took a lot of effort by many people, but it didn't take long for the Hollister Independence Day Rally to became the largest Motorcycle Rally on the West Coast.

Unfortunately, due to the excessive financial risk, the City of Hollister put the official Hollister Rally on hold in 2009. During that time, local supporters like Mike Corbin (Corbin saddles) continued to keep the spirit alive and welcomed riders to town with their own private events over the weekend. Meanwhile large numbers of supporters were working to bring back the official event. Those efforts paid off on January 7th 2013 with the official nod from the City Council to sanction an event.

Worldwide Dynamics Inc. presented a proposal to the city and has been named the rally management company. An active member of the Motorcycle Industry Council, Worldwide Dynamics is well known in the industry for organizing vendors and sponsors at Leesburg Bikefest, in Laconia, in Sturgis and at Bikes, Blues and BBQ.

Attendees can expect motorcycle-only parking filling downtown Hollister with side streets devoted to a wide variety of rally vendors. Two large entertainment areas downtown will offer live entertainment and local beer gardens. On Saturday, center lane parking on the main drag will be occupied by the official bike show which is a part of the World Championship of Bike Building. Motorcycle manufacturers will be in attendance at multiple locations offering demo rides.

Riders will receive an enthusiastic welcome back from local businesses, eateries and taverns for this annual town highlight. Around the area there is excellent scenic riding, wine tours and a summer concert series at a local vineyard's outdoor amphitheater. Naturally Mike Corbin will be hosting his annual Rider Appreciation Day at the Corbin factory on the north side of town as well.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the multitudes of people who have come together to restore the Hollister Rally dream. From the thousands of riders who continued to come to town every Fourth of July to the local community whose high spirits and enthusiasm brought about this return.

Special thanks to:

Dave Westrick & Carlos Reynoso of the Hollister PD who presented the working budget for public services and received a standing ovation for their efforts.

Mark Cresswell and Clint Quilter for their vision and creating a rally proposal that works for everyone.

Former mayor and current councilman Ray Friend along with councilman Robert Scattini for their endless support and tireless efforts.

Sonny Barger for having the idea back in 1995 to get this all going.

Mike Corbin for his long standing support and community efforts.

Hollister's new Mayor elect Ignacio Velazquez for his leadership and communication skills bringing it all together.

Charisse Tyson, Cristy Howe and hundreds of other Hollister citizens and business people who's enthusiasm and drive kept the dream going!

See you in Hollister July 5th & 6th 2013

Hollister City Council met on December 17 th and placed the HOLLISTER RALLY on the agenda to be voted on January 7th 2013.

Public Safety, City Council, San Benito County Chamber, Local Business Folks and members of the Motorcycle Industry seem to be working very well together finding a way to restore our wonderful and historic rally.

Clint Quilter, City Manager and Mark Cresswell, Rally Manager are doing a splendid job on a budget which as we all know is at the heart of the rally issue. Almost everybody wants to see the HOLLISTER RALLY return, but the City of Hollister cannot afford to lose money. We are now at a point of very careful financial planning, which will be presented to City Council for a vote.

We will update you on January 7th, stay tuned!

Don't go all crazy yet, but there's some good news on the Hollister Rally front. Nothing solid, but as they say "A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step".

The first step in this case was that Hollister's Mayor, Chief of Police and County Sheriff all met with a potential promotor / organizer. At this point we're not going to talk any specifics, but from what we hear it was encouraging and quite positive. A proposal is in the works.

In addition, the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau has officially come out Pro-Rally which lends a little more weight to the possibilty of a return.
